Last summer, I was tasked to explain to two daughters, aged 8 and 6, what cigarette smoking was, and why people do it. As an added challenge to that, I have never been a smoker.

It is amazing, though, the manner in which my teenage daughter's spoken vocabulary has apparently diminished, just the way you described.

Hi David - love the new look blog! I'm with you on the teenager words - my daughter is 15. If your teenager says to you "ceebs!" I've discovered it means 'Can't be bothered'. It was abbreviated for MSN and txt to: 'cbb' but has ended up as 'ceebs'. Also 'biffles' is a big one - which is the slang for 'bff' which was the abbreviation for 'best friends forever'!
Mark McCrindle has a FANTASTIC lexion of Gen Y speak called WORD UP which I continually annoy my daughter and friends with! http://www.learningtolearn.sa.edu.au/Colleagues/pages/default/mccrindle/?reFlag=1
